About Stedivaze™
Stedivaze is a highly selective and high affinity agonist of the adenosine A2A receptor that is now entering Phase III of development. Stedivaze has the potential to be best-in-class as a coronary vasodilator for pharmacological stress imaging.
Diagnosing coronary artery disease (CAD) can be a challenging aspect of patient care for cardiologists and other healthcare providers. Cardiac stress tests are frequently performed on people who experience certain symptoms associated with CAD, including chest pain, shortness of breath, and irregular heartbeat. One of the most common non-invasive methods for diagnosing CAD is myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI), often referred to as the exercise treadmill test. In some cases, the ability of patients to undergo a standard MPI test may be limited because of long-term physical inactivity and/or concomitant illnesses such as arthritis, peripheral vascular disease or heart failure. For these patients, a pharmacologic stress agent can be administered to dilate the coronary vasculature in the absence of exercise in order to perform MPI tests. An aging population and a patient population increasingly unable to perform exercise during diagnostic procedures are projected to create greater demand for cardiac imaging agents in the future.
On January 6, 2009, Clinical Data conducted an end of Phase II meeting with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Stedivaze, permitting Stedivaze to now enter Phase III studies for cardiac perfusion testing.
