Despite warfarin’s well-established efficacy, determining the correct dose can be a challenge. The optimal maintenance dose of warfarin for each patient is difficult to establish; it can take a month or more of frequent monitoring of the prothrombin time (PT, a test for blood coagulability) before a stable maintenance dose of warfarin is identified.
